7th cohort of the OYA Emerging Filmmakers Producer Incubator Program

OYA Black Arts Coalition (OBAC) has announced its newest cohort for its highly successful OYA Emerging Filmmakers Program. The organization is welcoming 10 new filmmakers and creatives to join its seventh edition of the program with a brand new focus – producing. 

This year’s cohort is dedicated to empowering Black youth to excel in the dynamic world of digital media, film, and television, with a strong focus on the key role of the Producer.  The 2024-2025 program will enhance participants’ skills through a Producers lens with targeted mentoring, strategic networking, and hands-on-training with Industry Leaders and Experts. 

“We are thrilled to kick off this year’s OYA Emerging Filmmakers program with the spotlight on Producers through a specialized and intensive Producer Incubator model” said Samantha Kaine, OYA Emerging Filmmakers Producer Incubator program director. “Focusing on Producers this year, we aim to elevate more Black creators into key roles at the forefront of the Entertainment Industry.”

With over 100 alumni, the OYA Emerging Filmmakers Program supports passionate individuals seeking careers in the industry. With this cohort alone, OBAC is welcoming a TIFF 2024 official selection Producer, a Canada Shorts Film Festival winner, one of Canada’s Most Influential Lawyers, an Associate Producer from the JUNO Awards and leaders in experimental cinema in the Canadian film landscape.
