As 2023 draws to an end, it’s time to reflect. We begin the year’s reviews with the most popular streaming series and movies of the year.
First of all, it has to be said that there are some big surprises in these 2 top 10s. It’s not just the titles that make the cut, but also the platforms that offer the most popular content, that make our eyes glaze over.
Let’s find out!
Here, it’s not Netflix that takes the lead. In fact, the giant has no films in the top 10. Given that it holds first place in terms of subscriber numbers – and far ahead – we might have expected to see at least one Netflix feature slip into the top 10. But it didn’t.
It’s two other giants that fill the top 10: Disney+ and Prime Video. These two platforms clearly have the upper hand in this year’s streaming movie rankings, with The Super Mario Bros. Movie on Prime Video topping the list and Disney+’s Avatar: The Way of Water in 2nd place.
In all, 9 of the top 10 films are on one or the other of these two platforms. Only Crave managed to insert one of its titles into the list.

When it comes to series, things are more evenly divided. But here again, the big surprise is how few titles come from Netflix. It’s as if people subscribe to them without really liking the content.
Another surprise here is the absence of series from Prime Video. No Wheel of Time, no LotR.
It’s Paramount+ that smashes the top 10 with 3 titles, including the top spot with Yellowstone.
