Andrew Phung to Host the 14th Annual Canadian Screen Awards Gala

The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (the Canadian Academy) announced today a historic partnership between three of Canada’s leading broadcasters, who will simultaneously broadcast the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards. This unprecedented awards format will allow more people than ever across Canada to follow this annual celebration of Canadian television and film.

Live from the CBC Broadcast Centre in Toronto, the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards show will be broadcast and streamed on May 31 at 8 p.m. ET on CBC, CBC Gem, Crave, CTV, Global, and STACKTV.

Canadian actor and comedian Andrew Phung, an eight-time Canadian Screen Award winner for his iconic roles in the CBC series Kim’s Convenience and Run the Burbs, and host of the culinary show Big Burger Battle (Flavour Network), will host the evening.

“In this pivotal and transformative time for our industry, it is wonderful to see three leading Canadian broadcasters partner to present the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards,” says Tammy Frick, CEO of the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television. “This unprecedented collaboration proves the strength of our creative community and the importance of celebrating Canadian stories on the national stage. The Canadian Academy is also delighted to welcome Andrew Phung as host for the evening. His authentic connection, infectious energy, and long-standing relationship with audiences across the country make him an obvious choice to lead our celebration of Canadian talent.”

The ceremony rewards the country’s best film and television productions and honors both famous figures and rising stars. Filmed in Toronto and broadcast simultaneously for the very first time on CBC, CBC Gem, Crave, CTV, Global, and STACKTV, the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards night will include significant tributes to entertainment legends and never-before-seen television moments, inviting the audience to celebrate the stories that unite us in a uniquely Canadian style!

“I am so excited to be hosting the 2026 Canadian Screen Awards! I’ve been waiting years to be asked,” confides Andrew Phung. “Canadian Screen Week is a highlight for our industry, and it’s a great pleasure for me to be able to showcase the Canadian people and stories that make our industry so special. As far as I’m concerned, the Canadian Academy has done a lot for me. I won my first Canadian Screen Award in 2017 and it launched my career in a way I never could have imagined.”

With his infectious enthusiasm and approachable personality, comedian, actor, and host Andrew Phung has become one of English Canada’s most prominent and celebrated comedic performers. He is best known for his performance in the hit series Kim’s Convenience (CBC Original/Netflix), which earned him five consecutive Canadian Screen Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. He is also co-creator, executive producer, and star of the series Run the Burbs (CBC Original/Hulu), for which he won the 2025 Canadian Screen Award for Best Lead Performance in a Comedy Series. Most recently, he appeared in the show LOL: Last One Laughing Canada (Amazon Prime), and he hosts the new cooking competition series Big Burger Battle (Flavour Network).
