The Mastermind (Kelly Reichardt), 2025 | Streaming exclusively on MUBI starting December 12

In a sedate Massachusetts suburb circa 1970, unemployed family man and amateur art thief J.B. Mooney sets out on his first heist. With the museum cased and accomplices recruited, he has an airtight plan. Or so he thinks. Rich in textured detail, this sly depiction of an era subverts long-held illusions and confronts disillusionment. 

The Mastermind

The Mastermind stars Josh O’Connor (Challengers, La Chimera), Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza), John Magaro (Past Lives, First Cow), Gaby Hoffmann (Transparent, Girls), Bill Camp (12 Years a Slave, Joker) and Hope Davis (American Splendor, Synecdoche, New York). The film made its debut in competition at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, and Reichardt has since earned a Best Director nomination and Josh O’Connor for Outstanding Lead Performance at the Gotham Film Awards.

The New Years (Rodrigo Sorogoyen) 2025 | Streaming exclusively on MUBI starting December 3

The New Years, from César Award-winning director Rodrigo Sorogoyen (The Beasts), follows Ana (Iria Del Río – Apocalypse Z: The Beginning of the End) and Óscar (Francesco Carril – Three Goodbyes) from their first meeting, on the night they both turn thirty, through ten New Year’s Eves. She lives in a shared flat, dislikes her job, and changes friends frequently. He’s a doctor with his life sorted—until they meet and fall in love.

Ten consecutive years, with each episode capturing a single night that reveals how love evolves, the series is an honest examination of modern commitment and choosing someone, year after year.

Blue Velvet earned director David Lynch an Academy Award nomination for Best Director in 1987, and premiered at the Montreal World Film Festival in 1986.

Christmas, Again (Drama, Romance)  2014

Christmas again

A heartbroken Christmas-tree salesman returns to New York City hoping to put his past behind him. Living in a Trailer (B-A) and working the night shift, he begins to spiral downwards until the saving of a woman and some colourful customers rescue him from self-destruction. 

Christmas, Again was shot on 16MM, and had its World Premiere at the Locarno Film Festival in 2014.

Hundreds of Beavers (Action, Adventure, Comedy) 2022

In the 19th century, a drunken applejack salesman loses his business in a fire and finds himself stranded in the wilderness. Facing starvation, he must survive a surreal winter landscape overrun by beavers—and devise clever traps to stay alive and win the hand of a mischievous lover. 

Hundreds of Beavers is director Mike Cheslik’s feature directorial debut. Lead actor Ryland Brickson Cole Tews also serves as co-writer.
