The Rencontres internationales du documentaire de Montréal (RIDM) has unveiled the films that will mark the opening and closing of its 27th edition. From November 20th to December 1st, 2024, cinephiles are invited to immerse themselves in a variety of captivating universes.
For this new edition, the RIDM has chosen to open the festival with Tobias Nölle’s “Preparations for a Miracle”. This film, at the crossroads of militant documentary and science fiction, takes us to a future where androids observe a humanity in decline. Through the lens of these artificial beings, the Swiss filmmaker casts a critical eye on our relationship with technology, the environment, and ourselves. It’s a thought-provoking reflection on our future that is sure to spark debate.
In closing, Kim O’Bomsawin’s film, “Ninan Auassat: We, the Children”, will be screened. This sensitive and profound documentary gives voice to Indigenous youth who share their hopes, dreams, and concerns. By blending personal testimonies and collective reflections, Kim O’Bomsawin paints a vibrant portrait of a generation that is asserting itself and reinventing itself.
