It’s no secret that animated films are a crowd-pleaser. Once practically the preserve of children, anime is now popular with a wide audience, thanks to Japanese cinema.

The most popular animated film of all time has long been Shrek, and with good reason. In fact, it’s the film that reconciled me with animated films. For the first time in many years, an animated film spoke to me and appealed to me. 

Believe it or not, it was recently dethroned, prompting our partners at Just Watch to put together a short top 10 list of the most popular animated films worldwide.
