\"FNC<\/a>For its 47th<\/sup> edition, which will take place from October 3 to 14, 2018, the Festival du Nouveau Cin\u00e9ma<\/a> (FNC) offers more than 300 films from 62 countries, including 34 world premieres, 16 international premieres, 44 North American premieres and 44 canadian premieres. Movie lovers fond of primeurs will not be disappointed. Not more those who like to discover new directors, who want to meet some creators (many will come to introduce their films) or who like to live experiences, for example, with virtual reality works.<\/span><\/p>\n

The screenings will be held in various Montreal cinemas: the Cin\u00e9ma du Parc, the Imperial Cinema, the Cin\u00e9math\u00e8que qu\u00e9b\u00e9coise, the Cineplex Odeon of the Latin Quarter, the Grande-Place of the Desjardins Complex, the Inis and the Th\u00e9\u00e2tre Maisonneuve at Place des Arts. Two new, recently opened cinemas have been added to the other “regulars” at the FNC, namely the Cinema Moderne (5150 St. Laurent Boulevard) and the Mus\u00e9e Cin\u00e9ma at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA).<\/span><\/p>\n

Strong and bold programming<\/h4>\n

This year again, the FNC is offering a strong and bold program.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"If<\/a>In addition to the opening films, <\/span>If Beale Street Could Talk <\/span><\/i>by Barry Jenkins, and closing, <\/span>Guy<\/span><\/i> by Alex Lutz, several films are presented in competition in one or other of the categories: International Competition <\/span>\u2013<\/span> feature films; International Competition <\/span>\u2013<\/span> short films; Focus Quebec\/Canada <\/span>\u2013<\/span> feature films; Focus Quebec\/Canada <\/span>\u2013<\/span> short films; Temps \u00d8 <\/span>\u2013<\/span> feature films; Panorama International <\/span>\u2013<\/span> feature films; Les Nouveaux Alchimistes <\/span>\u2013<\/span> feature films; Les Nouveaux Alchimistes <\/span>\u2013<\/span> short films; <\/span>P\u2019tits loups \u2013<\/span> short films; Pan-Canadian Student Film Meeting – Short Films; and FNC explores – interactive projects and virtual realities.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Firecrackers<\/a>If films of recognized directors interest us (Gaspar No\u00e9, Lars Von Trier, to name only those), we will not fail to let ourselves be surprised. We will talk about several films from here and there, short and feature films. Lover of Italian cinema, Fran\u00e7ois Grondin will not fail to talk to you about four shorts: <\/span>Gli anni<\/span><\/i> by Sara Fgaier, <\/span>Magic Alps<\/span><\/i> by Marco Scotuzzi and Andrea Brusa, <\/span>Ninfe<\/span><\/i> by Isabella Torre and <\/span>Vesuvius at Home<\/span><\/i> by Christin Turner. From the “Focus Quebec\/Canada” category, we will let ourselves be tempted by <\/span>Cuba merci, gracias<\/span><\/i> by Alex B. Martin, Jasmin Mozzafari’s <\/span>Firecrackers<\/span><\/i> and Katherine Jerkovic’s <\/span>Les routes en f\u00e9vrier<\/span><\/i>. But we will also travel across Europe and Latin America with, among others, <\/span>Cutterhead<\/span><\/i> (Denmark) by Rasmus Kloster Bro, <\/span>M<\/span><\/i> (Finland) by Anna Ericksson, <\/span>Mariphasa<\/span><\/i> (Portugal) by Sandro Aguilar, <\/span>Phantom Islands<\/span><\/i> (Ireland) by Rouzbeh Rashidi and <\/span>Too Late to Die Young<\/span><\/i> (Chile, Brazil, Argentina, the Netherlands) by Dominga Sotomayor.<\/span><\/p>\n

The experiences will be varied, going from drama, say more classic, to the pure and hard experimental film.<\/span><\/p>\n

For families<\/h4>\n

Having young children, I am sensitive to the festivals that allow us to introduce our children to a different type of children’s cinema, unfortunately hardly accessible otherwise. The P’tits Loups are back with screenings for young and old, as well as the Grande Kermesse des P’tits Loups, which will present, for its 4th<\/sup> edition, screenings and creative workshops to have fun and learn.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Allons<\/a>A new youth jury, composed of young film lovers aged from 8 to 12, will award the Best Short Film Award. In addition to numerous short films, the young audience will be able to discover St\u00e9phane Demoustier’s feature films <\/span>Allons Enfants<\/span><\/i> (France), Mamoru Hosoda’s <\/span>Mirai<\/span><\/i> (Japan) and Linda Hamb\u00e4ck’s <\/span>Paddy, the little mouse<\/span><\/i> (Sweden).<\/span><\/p>\n

So young and old will be able to make new cinematic discoveries. Some may be confusing, others fun, but every time, rewarding.<\/span><\/p>\n
