The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television (the Canadian Academy) has just unveiled the nominees for the 2025 Canadian Screen Awards in 149 categories across film, television, and digital media. The names of the winners of this 13th edition will be announced in Toronto during three days of award presentations from May 30th to June 1st, 2025, culminating in the televised show.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2025 Canadian Screen Awards will be hosted by Canadian comedian Lisa Gilroy. The ceremony will be broadcast live in its entirety on Sunday, June 1st at 8:00 PM ET on the free streaming service CBC Gem.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Film<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the film categories, the Quebec film Une langue universelle<\/em> by Matthew Rankin, written by Ila Firouzabadi, Pirouz Nemati, and Matthew Rankin and produced by Sylvain Corbeil leads with 13 nominations, including Best Motion Picture and Best Achievement in Direction. Une langue universelle<\/em> ties with Xavier Dolan’s Mommy<\/em> (2015) for the third most nominated film in Canadian Screen Awards history.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

David Cronenberg’s The Shrouds<\/em> ranks second with 9 nominations, followed by Sam McGlynn’s Deaner ’89<\/em> and Karen Chapman’s Village Keeper<\/em>, each with 7 nominations.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Short Films<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the Best Short Documentary category, 4 out of 5 productions are from Quebec: Apr\u00e8s-coups<\/em> by Romane Garant Chartrand produced by Nathalie Cloutier; Hello Stranger<\/em> by Am\u00e9lie Hardy produced by Sarah Mannering and Fanny Drew; Perfectly a strangeness<\/em> by Alison McAlpine; and Who Loves the Sun<\/em> by Arshia Shakiba produced by Arshia Shakiba and Zayn\u00ea Akyol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Best Animated Short category, 4 out of 5 productions are also from Quebec: G\u00e9ant Beaupr\u00e9<\/em> by Alain Fournier; La petite anc\u00eatre<\/em> by Alexa Tremblay-Francoeur; Maybe Elephants<\/em> by Torill Kove, produced by Lise Fearnley, Maral Mohammadian, and Tonje Skar Reiersen; and Les gens dans l’armoire<\/em> by Jeong Dahee produced by Emmanuel-Alain Raynal, Pierre Baussaron, and Christine No\u00ebl.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Best Live Action Short Drama category presented by the Kingston Canadian Film Festival, 2 out of 5 short films are from Quebec: Fantas<\/em> by Halima Elkhatabi and Gender Reveal<\/em> by Mo Matton produced by L\u00e9onie Hurtubise.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Digital Media<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My Dead Mom<\/em> leads in digital media nominations with eight, including Best Fiction Web Program or Series. It is followed by Stories from my Gay Grandparents<\/em> (6 nominations) and Everybody’s Meg<\/em> (4 nominations).   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Television<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The television series Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent<\/em> leads both in television and across all platforms with 20 nominations. It is a finalist in the Best Drama Series category and Best Lead Performance, Drama Series presented by the Canada Media Fund, with nominations for both lead actors Kathleen Munroe and Aden Young. The series Bones of Crows<\/em>, Children Ruin Everything<\/em>, and Run the Burbs<\/em> each received 12 nominations.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n
