The first half of 2024 saw a 19% decrease in domestic box office earnings compared to the same period in 2023, with major films like Argylle<\/em>, The fall guy<\/em>, and Furiosa: a Mad Max saga<\/em> falling short despite their potential. Interestingly, some of these movies performed better once released for home viewing, a trend we will delve into later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the bright side, films like Dune: part two<\/em> and Inside out 2<\/em> did well in theaters. Looking ahead, the rest of the year promises high-profile releases each month, keeping studios active.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tools like Cinelytic’s predictive platform offer insights to help studios make better project decisions, and for us to imagine what\u2019s coming. Their projections back in November 2023 estimated a total domestic box office revenue of US$8.15 billion for the entire 2024 lineup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
